Fun, Funding and Learning
Twenty One Toys was one of five recipients selected from across Canada for the 2012 Spin Master Innovation Program – and we could not be more excited to be a part of it! As part of the program, we had an incredible opportunity at the Spin Master Launch Pad event, hosted by Spin Master and CYBF over two days in Toronto. We spent the first day at the ever-eclectic Spin Master Toys offices, visiting with the top Spin Master executives – including an hour each with the heads of the Sales, Marketing, PR, Licensing, Finance and Legal departments. A rare experience to be meeting the executives and four fellow Spin Master Innovation Fund finalists – opening up the possibilities of Creative Dialogue and Collaboration.
The second day of the Spin Master Launch Pad was spent attending workshops on business planning and team building. We had an amazing time with Eagle’s Flight in their Desert Kings workshop! We agree with Tessa Mintz, CYBF's VP of Volunteers and Events when she says that the knowledge we gained here is priceless – a once in a lifetime opportunity!
Ilana Ben-Ari, Lead Designer and CEO of Twenty One Toys shared her insights on the experience:
"What was most unexpected about the Launch Pad was how open and available SpinMaster made themselves to us. They didn't just tell us they would support us, they actually did by introducing us to the heads of each of their departments. At the end of every meeting they gave us their business cards and told us not to hesitate to get in touch. For a young startup this sort of mentorship is invaluable."
Mentorship and access from the Spin Master Innovation Program
Receiving mentorship, guidance and access to helpful resources through the Spin Master Innovation Program has been an invaluable experience for our growing company. It was motivating to see how much Spin Master is dedicated to the success of young entrepreneurs. “Today, more than ever, young entrepreneurs need access to an array of resources that can make a difference in the growth of their companies and position them to better compete at home and abroad," said Peter Lawler, the SVP of BDC Ontario's Financing and Consulting, confirming how useful our experience with the Spin Master Innovation Program has been. We are incredibly thankful for this opportunity the ongoing support of CYBF, BDC and Spin Master!
The Spin Master Innovation Program is provided by a partnership between the Canadian Youth Business Foundation (CYBF), Spin Master Ltd. and funding partner Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC), introducing the next level of highly innovative entrepreneurs to Canada.
