TEDxYouth@Montreal 2012, Playing on Purpose
TEDxYouth@Montreal 2012 was a first-of-its-kind conference that was organized for the future leaders (students in grades 6 to CEGEP) in Montreal, Quebec.
Coinciding with Universal Children’s Day, over 100 TEDxYouthDay 2011 events were held in nearly 50 countries last year.
On November 17, 2012 at TEDxYouth@Montreal, our Founder and Lead Designer Ilana Ben-Ari gave a presentation that explored “Playing on Purpose” – bringing play back into education!
Twenty One Toys fit right in with the curious, inspiring and energetic environment at the conference, themed "Dream Big, Then Do It".
Ilana discussed how we’re leading the way for learners of all ages to develop the key 21st-century skills like Innovation, Creativity, Empathy, Collaboration and Problem Solving.
The video of Ilana’s TEDxYouth@Montreal talk featuring Twenty One Toys is below, and is also available on the TED website here.
We had a great time meeting and connecting with inspiring, creative individuals, including fellow TEDxYouth speakers and the many youth attendees, who had a go at playing with our Connexions Toy.
We especially enjoyed listening to the beautiful music by child prodigy Daniel Clarke Bouchard, a brilliant pianist and frankly charming young man - shown below with our equally debonaire COO & Lead Strategist Gonzalo Riva.
Other speakers at the conference included David Ragsdale, Gioel Gioacchino, Sasha DiGiulian, Andréanne Morin, Nadia Sraieb-Koepp, Sophia Harman-Heath, Peter Szilagy, Susan Ibach, Lucas Jonasch, Anita Mahajan, Bernard Mariette, Jessica Magonet, and Erik Thijs.
Prior to TEDxYouth@Montreal, at TEDx Concordia 2011 Ilana demonstrated her Connexions Toy, which has been re-imagined as a tool to develop empathy and creative dialogue, for people of varying ages and abilities. With a breadth of knowledge in design, social innovation and collaboration, Ilana spoke of her experience running Twenty One Toys, where she continues to use toys and play as tools for social change.
